As she drove the knife into his chest, Balor screamed. His entire life flashed before his eyes, he regretted his ever joining the Guard. He tried to remember, with his last breaths, why he decided to
give his life to his country.
He thought of the sullen posture of his countrymen, the reports that
came from the battlefield. Who was he to think he could make
this go away? He thought of his family, his friends, his lover. But he thought
most of his son, who would now grow up without a father. And then, he realized, that
